My agency was sold. What happens to my policy?
Nothing happens to your policy. Your policy, your coverage, and your renewal date do not change when an agency sells, because your policy is a contract between you and the insurance carrier, not between you and the agency. The agency sells and services that contract. Who owns the agency can change without touching a word of it.
So what does change? The name on the letterhead, maybe. The person whose name is on the door. Sometimes the software the office uses. Your premium does not go up because of the sale, your deductible does not move, and you do not need to re-apply for anything. If someone tells you a sale requires you to buy a new policy, ask them to show you where.
What is worth checking is the part no form letter answers: whether the people who know your account are still there. An agency is mostly the people in it. If the staff stayed, your experience probably stays too. If everyone left, that is worth knowing before your next claim, and you are always free to move your policy to an agent you trust. That choice belongs to you, not to whoever bought the place.
We can speak to this from recent experience. This office changed hands in October 2025, and no customer's policy, coverage, or renewal date moved. Neither did the office or anyone working in it. The whole account of what changed and what did not is on our About page.
If you got a letter announcing a sale, call the office and ask who is still there. The answer will tell you most of what you need to know.
